The Mossel Bay Community Church School was established by the Mossel Bay Community Church in January 1988 with 19 learners and 3 teachers. In May 1989 the Mossel Bay Community Church School was registered with the Cape Education Department with 21 learners and offered Sub A (Grade 1) to Standard 5 (Grade 7). The school made use of the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) program which offered learners a Christian alternative to the conventional schooling system of the time. This educational system gave learners the opportunity to learn at their own pace. Mr Henry Cloete oversaw the running of the school from the establishment of the school in 1988 till December 1990 after which Mr Jeremy Walton took over as the school’s head teacher
in January 1991.
In 1991 the school established a Grade R class and in 1994 the school extended its offering up to
Std 10 (Grade 12) with 54 learners enrolled at the school at the time. In 2003 the “The Mossel Bay Community Church School” name was changed to Global Academy of Education. Mrs Shirley du Plessis became the head teacher of Global Academy of Education in 2003. At this time Global Academy offered a blended learning program consisting of the Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) program and Curriculum 2005 which consisted of an
outcomes-based education framework.
In October 2007 Mrs. Gwen Rodie became the head teacher of Global Academy. In 2008 the school reverted to offering only a Pre-primary class and Sub A (Grade 1) to Std 5 (Grade 7). In 2012 the school introduced the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) in Grade 1 – 3 and 2013 for Grades 4 – 7.
Mrs. Genevieve Pienaar was the head teacher of Global Academy from 2015 till 2018 after which Mrs. Charlene Schaefer took over as head teacher at the school.
In 2014 Global Academy applied for accreditation at UMALUSI Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training. UMALUSI sets and monitors standards for general and further education and training in South Africa in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework Act No 67 of 2008 and the General and Further Education and Training Quality Assurance Act No 58 of 2001. In April 2018 the school received its provisional accreditation
and in April 2020 its full accreditation.
